This week in CTS #3

Since I left off previously, I had talked about completing the first treehouse course for Ruby (Ruby Basics). Since then, I have continued with the Ruby course and am now working on Ruby Objectives and Classes. The progress is slow and steady but hopefully Ruby will be finished only a few months after we get back from winter break. I didn’t realize exactly how long of a course Ruby actually is. There is so much more content in this course than what I thought when I first started. This week we also installed a new display for our CTS circulation system which is pretty nice. It’s mounted on the side of the wall at our help desk and can be positioned in different directions. This will be convenient if we need to display messages to students about important updates like how many loaner chromebooks are in stock. Feel free to come down to the help desk (which is located in the corner of the library) and check it out. Another thing is that we are looking forward to is installing wifi that is specifically meant for the CTS which is also a big upgrade. We also hosted our first live CTS jeopardy game for the first time. It was a lot of fun considering it was my very first time using google hangouts on a live broadcast. It was my job to be the scorekeeper so I was in charge of managing our twitter account to record player’s answers and make sure it was fair game. It went well even though the game consisted of only a few players. I can’t wait to do more things like this in the future especially if we can get more students to jump in on it.

We have came a long way since the beginning of the year. It seems like it was just yesterday when we were talking about the start of this class and how it would all play out. It’s nice to see the progress we’ve made and how things have came along since then. I am looking forward for what is next to come for this class especially for what next year has to offer. It has been an interesting and very fun journey so far. I also want to give a big shoutout to our instructor Mr. Reed. He’s a really cool guy if you didn’t know already. He has given us each a great opportunity in this class and has ultimately made everything we do on a daily basis actually possible. A big thank you from myself and the rest of the 5th period tech squad goes out to you! (And no I didn’t just write that for bonus points!)
